The Letter F is one of the pivotal works by Recycle Group, marking the artists’ shift from exploring the theme of future archaeology to delving into the concept of immortality in the virtual world. For the first time, the artists address the idea that the traditional spiritual-material dichotomy no longer applies, proposing that humanity now exists in two realms—the real and the virtual.
Created during a time when Facebook had 10 foundational rules, The Letter F reflects how adherence to these rules ensured a profile’s eternal existence, while violations led to oblivion—a digital form of virtual hell. The Facebook logo, resembling a curved cross, symbolizes this virtual dichotomy, where the commandments of the digital age are not etched in stone, but encoded on a permeable digital medium.
“Before, people went to church to seek answers; now Google provides them,” the Recycle Group explained. “Material is like God—it exists, but it’s intangible.”
This work marks the beginning of artist’s exploration into how contemporary society is shaping a new reality, redefining human existence, and engaging with the concept of technological singularity.
