0.0

April 20 – June 1, 2019
Suzanne Tarasieve Gallery, Paris, France

For their third exhibition at Galerie Suzanne Tarasieve, artist duo Recycle Group was inspired by the phenomenon of Null Island, an imaginary island located at the intersection of the prime meridian and the equator, in the Gulf of Guinea, south of the Atlantic Ocean, a point with the coordinates 0.0.

Although the island does not physically exist, it is often visited by geocoders: invalid addresses entered into phones or GPS are automatically replaced with this set of null coordinates, meaning that Null Island receives thousands of virtual visitors each day. The exhibition 0.0 aims to embody this location, in both its real and virtual dimensions, through an in-situ installation, in which the four points of the compass are represented and visitors can cross an ocean covered in footprints; and through sculptures that offer a glimpse, while also deforming, this inaccessible landscape.

As is their wont, Recycle Group used industrial techniques and materials connected to new technologies (plastic, chrome, Styrofoam, silicone) to create this environment.
